Description:
The 4-ID-D beamline is the hard x-ray (3 keV -> 50 keV) branch of sector 4. The primary focus of this beamline is studies of magnetic materials, using techniques which involve the manipulation and analysis of the polarization of the incident or scattered x-ray beam. The beamline, however, is also well designed for general single crystal diffraction experiments.

Special Capabilities:
This beamline is equiped with crystal phase retarding optics which allow the user to manipulate the polarization of the incoming x-ray beam on the sample (i.e. linear to circular [Pc = ±0.98] or horizontal linear to vertical linear [Plin = -0.80])

Beamline Controls and Data Acquisition:
All data aquisiton on the beamline is performed on Sun workstations (UNIX/Solaris) using the SPEC software program. Beamline control is done though EPICS based applications running VME-based electronics. MEDM is used as a graphical interface to display and control various EPICS based devices.
